A Lector proclaims God's Word with the assembled Faithful at Mass. A prayerful person, who is eager to enhance the liturgy by inspired proclamation of the readings, may serve. Training is required. A lector workbook is provided. Please call the parish office if you are interested. We would love to have you serve!
St. Augustine reportedly said those who sing well, pray twice. The primary purpose of our parish music ministry is to support the full, active and conscious participation of the congregation in the liturgy, creating a whole, beautiful worship. Those interested should be able to match pitch and attend rehearsals. Instrumentalists who are proficient in reading music are encouraged and welcome. There are many groups at Sacred Heart; Sunday morning English choir, African Choir, three Spanish Groups, The Contemporary Saturday evening choir, and the youth/young adult choir. Contact Mrs. Monica Mueller or Mrs. Lynn Plote for more information. [email protected].
The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are lay men and women who assist the clergy in the distribution of Holy Eucharist. They assist the priest at Mass and bring Holy Communion to the sick, the homebound, and those in care facilities when the priest cannot. To serve, an individual must be a Baptized and Confirmed member of Sacred Heart Parish, and living a life in harmony with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Training is required. Watch for training announcements in the bulletin or contact the Parish Office.
The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. Service carry the cross, the processional candle(s), hold the Roman Missal, carry the incense and censer, holy water, present the bread, wine and water to the priest during the preparation of the gifts, and wash the hands of the priest as well as assist as necessary. This is a beautiful way for boys and girls to discern if they may want to consider a vocation. Training sessions will be announced in the bulletin and at Mass. If you have served at another parish, please talk to one of the deacons.
The ushers and greeters have the distinct honor of being the first person a guest or parishioner sees as they enter Sacred Heart. The greeters smile and enthusiastically welcome everyone to church! Ushers take up the collection, find seating for guests when the church is full, and handle emergency situations that may occur at Mass. Ushers also count attendees and pass out bulletins. Contact the Parish Office to become part of this welcoming ministry.
